INDIANAPOLIS, November 6, 2017 – Herff Jones, the leading provider of graduation and recognition products and services, teamed up with DeSoto County Schools to present WWII veteran, K.T. Robbins with an honorary diploma. Robbins received his diploma on November 2 during the DeSoto County Schools Board Meeting.

Robbins, who was scheduled to graduate from Hurricane High School in New Albany, Miss. in 1942, entered the military in 1939 and never received his diploma nor officially graduated from the school. Instead, he served in World War II as Quartermaster of the 95th Battalion under U.S. General George S. Patton, and traveled to England, Iceland and Normandy Beach in France in the course of his military career before retiring as a U.S. Army Staff Sergeant.

All World War II and Korean War veterans can apply for an honorary diploma from the school district in which they currently reside if serving in the wars prevented them from graduating and getting their diploma. Robbins, whose birthday also happens to be July 4, is a resident of Olive Branch, Miss. and applied for his diploma from the DeSoto County School District.

Cory Uselton, Superintendent of the DeSoto County School District, contacted Steve Douglas, a Graduate Services representative for Herff Jones, a division of Varsity Brands. “We could not be more proud to have a part in presenting Mr. Robbins with his diploma,” says Douglas. “In stressing the importance of achievement, he serves as an inspiration to generations of Mississippi residents.”

Herff Jones has been elevating the student experience for nearly 100 years, with a product line that includes class rings, graduation regalia, jewelry and yearbooks, as well as motivation and recognition tools and resources.
